Attention
Deep low approaching Iceland, bringing gales, rain and blizzard conditions

Yellow and orange weather warnings have been issued for the approaching low. The warning page provides details of when the warnings apply, the expected conditions and recommended precautions.
Forecaster’s remarks
Light southerly winds and showers today
Winds have been mainly light and southerly across Iceland today, with showers or light rain in most regions. At the time of writing, the highest temperatures recorded today are 11.2°C in Bolungarvík and 10.5°C at Sauðanesviti, at the northern tip of the Tröllaskagi peninsula.
Satellite imagery has shown tomorrow’s storm system developing east of Newfoundland today. The images indicate that the low is intensifying rapidly.
Easterly gales tomorrow morning, blizzard conditions in the northwest by afternoon
This very deep and intense low will approach Iceland rapidly from the south tonight. Its fronts will move across the country tomorrow morning, bringing easterly gales and considerable precipitation. Lightning is possible along the fronts.
The centre of the low will move over Iceland tomorrow afternoon, with winds and precipitation easing in southern and eastern areas. However, northerly winds will then bring blizzard conditions to northwestern Iceland, where orange weather warnings have been issued.
Blizzard conditions spread eastwards before the weather eases on Thursday
Tomorrow evening and overnight into Thursday, the low will continue moving northeastwards. The northerly winds and blizzard conditions will spread eastwards across northern Iceland and into eastern Iceland.
Snow is expected to continue in northern and eastern Iceland on Thursday morning, but the northerly winds and precipitation will gradually ease. By Thursday afternoon, the low should have moved away and conditions should be fair, though rather cold.
Keep up to date with weather warnings on the Icelandic Meteorological Office’s warning page.
