Significant short-duration rainfall expected in Southern and Eastern part tonight
11.10.2026
Attention
Late this evening, 11 October, a frontal system will move onto southern Iceland. Brief periods of significant rainfall are expected in Southeast and East Iceland. The front is forecast to have passed by midday tomorrow. Forecast rainfall amounts are not expected to exceed warning thresholds in populated areas of the region.
While the front is passing, slope movements such as rockfalls and small landslides on steep slopes cannot be ruled out. The Landslide Watch encourages anyone travelling overnight into Monday to exercise caution on roads, particularly below steep slopes and in areas known for rockfall activity, and to follow updates on the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration website.
The public is encouraged to report landslides and rockfalls to the Landslide Watch. Reports can be sent by email to skriduvakt@vedur.is or submitted using the electronic reporting form for landslides and avalanches. Please provide the precise location and, if known, the time when the landslide or rockfall occurred. If the exact time is not known, it is sufficient to state when it was first observed. Please include photographs where possible. The Landslide Watch reviews the reports and attempts to verify them before they are entered into the Icelandic Meteorological Office’s landslide database.
