On the morning of Thursday, 20 August, the ground-based interferometric radar (GB-InSAR) located in Vestdalur was relocated to Eskifjörður. The system measures surface displacements in Strandartindur and the outer part of Neðri-Botnar.
The relocation to Eskifjörður is temporary. The GB-InSAR system will remain in Eskifjörður for one week to monitor surface displacements in the slopes above the town. This is routinely done twice a year to maximize the use of the system within the area.
The Landslide Watch will issue an update once the system has been relocated back to Seyðisfjörður after one week.
